One of my favourite plant-based sources of energy is hemp hearts. They are not only super nutritious by being packed with protein and healthy fats; they also taste good with a slightly nutty flavour and a chewy texture.
I like to add hemp hearts to smoothies, sprinkle a teaspoon on my oatmeal, cereal, and even on salads. And, obviously, it is an awesome ingredient for energy balls.

TIPS, FAQs + SUBSTITUTIONS
Use a fresh jar of peanut butter for best results. The drippy nature of a fresh jar ensures your balls won’t be crumbly and they will hold together really well.
Substitute a variety of nut butters like almond butter or cashew butter. Even coconut butter or sunflower seed butter would work if you want a nut free option.
If you are vegan you can swap in pure maple syrup or brown rice syrup instead of honey.
Add dried fruit like cranberries or raisins for an extra sweet flavor.
Are hemp hearts good for weight loss? Hemp hearts are both a natural appetite suppressant and full of fiber. This helps keep you satisfied and fuller for longer.
