One of my favourite plant-based sources of energy is hemp hearts. They are not only super nutritious by being packed with protein and healthy fats; they also taste good with a slightly nutty flavour and a chewy texture.

I like to add hemp hearts to smoothies, sprinkle a teaspoon on my oatmeal, cereal, and even on salads. And, obviously, it is an awesome ingredient for energy balls.

TIPS, FAQs + SUBSTITUTIONS

  • Use a fresh jar of peanut butter for best results. The drippy nature of a fresh jar ensures your balls won’t be crumbly and they will hold together really well.
  • Substitute a variety of nut butters like almond butter or cashew butter. Even coconut butter or sunflower seed butter would work if you want a nut free option.
  • If you are vegan you can swap in pure maple syrup or brown rice syrup instead of honey.
  • Add dried fruit like cranberries or raisins for an extra sweet flavor.
  • Are hemp hearts good for weight loss? Hemp hearts are both a natural appetite suppressant and full of fiber. This helps keep you satisfied and fuller for longer.
