Sally Martin (née Burke), a beloved member of the Rathneeny community in Laghey, Donegal, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Her passing marks a profound loss for her family and friends, as she was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Sally's life was a testament to the strength of her family bonds, as she was predeceased by her parents, Manus and Hannah, her sister, Teresa, and her niece, Deirdre. The impact of her loss is felt deeply by her husband, Packie, and her children: Menie (Adie), Carmel (Ronan), Angela (Ryan), Noreen (Frank), Caroline (Colm), Sheila (Justin), and Gerard (Hannah).
The family is grieving the loss of a matriarch who was adored by her grandchildren: Sarah, Aimée, Connor, Odhrán, Daithí, Shea, Hannah, Rosie, Cormac, Jack, Grace, and Hugo. Her extended family, including her brother, John (Marion), and her sister, Mary (David RIP), are also mourning her absence. Additionally, her nephew, Patrick (Catherine), her brother-in-law, Attie (Evelyn), and her many good friends and neighbors have been deeply affected by her passing.
The funeral arrangements are as follows: Sally's remains will be reposed at her home on Friday, the 7th, from 2 pm to 9 pm, and on Saturday, the 8th, from 1 pm to 9 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Sunday, the 9th, at St. Brigid's Church in Ballintra at 11 am, followed by a burial in the adjoining graveyard. Due to the private nature of the morning of the funeral, family flowers are requested, and donations in lieu can be made to the Donegal Hospice, Letterkenny, through Jackie Carron Funeral Directors or any family member.
During the wake, a one-way traffic system will be in operation, with entry via Laghey Village and exiting via the L6725, off the old Laghey road.
