This pineapple smoothie recipe with banana and mango will transport you straight to the tropics.

Anyone else feel like a Hawaiian vacation is needed? This pineapple smoothie recipe is the next best thing. After making our post and video all about How to Cut a Pineapple, we couldn’t wait to work on a refreshing tropical pineapple smoothie recipe. Last summer we did a rich pineapple-coconut smoothie, AKA Virgin Pina Colada, which is also delicious and you might prefer if you’re a coconut lover. This recipe is also a bit like our Pineapple Vegan Ice Cream.

This pineapple smoothie recipe is thick, cold, and creamy. It’s sweet and tart and tastes perfectly tropical. Serve it in glasses, or make a pineapple glass like we did! This smoothie recipe is a bit of a copycat of one of the girls’ favorites from our local smoothie place, but instead of pineapple sherbet we use frozen pineapple.

How to Make a Pineapple Smoothie

Cut the Pineapple

Buy a large whole pineapple, or frozen chunks. Frozen pineapple chunks are more convenient, while whole pineapple is more eco-friendly (no plastic). If you’re cutting a fresh pineapple, cut it into chunks and freeze until firm, overnight or at least 4 hours. Don’t miss our post about How to Cut a Pineapple. Store frozen pineapple chunks in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 12 months. I keep a variety of frozen fruit in the freezer for last minute smoothies.

Layer the Pineapple Smoothie Ingredients

I always start with liquid on the bottom to help those blades move. The rest of the ingredients can really go in any order. The ingredients for this pineapple smoothie recipe include pineapple juice, orange, banana for creaminess, a lot of frozen pineapple chunks, a little frozen peach or mango chunks, and ice.

Blend Until Smooth

We like super thick and frozen smoothies over here. That’s easy to do in a high powered blender like a Vitamix. If your blender isn’t quite as strong, that’s okay. Just know you may need to add more liquid.

Open the top hole and move things around with the tamper, if your blender has one. Add more liquid as needed to blend. Blending this smoothie takes me about 2 minutes.

Serve the Smoothie

Use a rubber spatula to scoop the smoothie out of the blender. Never use anything metal in the blender.

Pineapple Smoothie Recipe with Banana and Mango (6)

Serve in two glasses or a big fresh pineapple “cup” like we used here.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/2 orange, peeled
  • 1 small banana
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1/2 cup frozen peach or mango chunks
  • 1 cup ice

Instructions

  1. Pour the pineapple juice into a blender. Add the orange and banana on top. Add the frozen pineapple, mango, and ice.
  2. Close the lid and fit with the tamper, if your blender came with one.
  3. Turn on low speed, then increase to high. Blend, pushing ingredients around with the tamper, or stopping occasionally toe stir with a rubber spatula, until thick, creamy, and smooth.
  4. If this smoothie is too thick for your blender, add more liquid to turn the blades. This pineapple smoothie recipe comes out very thick and frozen, like a soft ice cream.

Notes

You can use a bag of frozen pineapple here, or buy a fresh pineapple, cut, and freeze the chunks. When using the pineapple cutting tool we find there is often naturally 1/4 cup of juice sitting in the bottom of the pineapple.
