Quinoa has a wonderful and fascinating history.
It’s filled with wonderful stories, just like its seeds.

The way it’s growing,
The way it’s picked,
The journey it goes through until it reaches our plate.
It’s just one big edventure.

Quinoa is on a thin line between the definition of grain and pulses.
So let’s conclude it has no exact definition
I love it!
It just stands on its own.

These little crumbs of happiness contain plenty of protein.
Quinoa has all the amino acids vital for our body.
It has so many fibers in it,
It has many minerals in it,
It grows in a variety of colors, every one of which gives something different to our body.

It’s amazing,
It’ll sweeps away,
It’s perfect!

Quinoa can be eaten in different ways,
Starting from boiled or cooked quinoa (Like most of us eat it)
To roasted and even baked quinoa.
And the most magical of it all- you can also grind it into flour and make gorgeous pastries out of it.

Quinoa, like many other types of grain, easily gives in to the blender’s blades and is ground easily into soft airy flour.
I like to store my quinoa flour in a jar inside the pantry.
The flour keeps running out so fast that I grind myself a new jar almost every week.

This flour integrates wonderfully with pastries,
It also goes well in meatballs mixture,
It’s amazing as a stew thickener.
And it’s just a wonderful magic rich in protein and fibers.

The adventures I have with quinoa excites me and everyday I look forward to another experience by its side.
Whoever prefer not to grind their quinoa on their own,
Can purchase it as flour in most nature and herbal stores.

But there is no doubt that grinding your quinoa flour at home will provide a much fresher and cheaper flour than the pre-made ones you buy.
I recommend you to try, you might just succeed 🙂

Let’s learn together how to grind quinoa into flour at home easily and quickly,
So that you too will have a fabulous quinoa flour jar waiting for you in the pantry or fridge.

Happy quinoa flour days 🙂

How to Grind Quinoa Flour at Home?

Ingredients

  • ½ cup quinoa in any color you choose

Kindly note that most of the recipes are based on white quinoa since it’s less bitter and its taste goes well with everything. Red and black quinoa are more bitter than the white one and therefore can change the taste of pastries, color it and of course cause it to burn easily because of its color.

Make sure to wash the quinoa prior to grinding it- if it’s still wet it’ll form lumps and won’t grind into flour.
If you like, quinoa can be picked out and sorted before grinding and I definitely recommend doing so.

Steps:

  1. Put in the blender / spice mill / coffee grinder / shake container ½ cup of quinoa and grind well until forming flour. Pay attention- we want to get a very fine flour just like a cloud and with no visible crumbs.

The amount of quinoa very much depends on your blender’s size and abilities.
I recommend starting with a small amount and grinding it. If you see that your device has a bigger capacity- go for it.

A little extra from me:

  • If you choose to grind in a simple shake cup, take the smallest one out of your options. Turn the device on for one minute, take the cup out of the device, give it a good shake, put it back in the device and turn it back on for another minute. You should get a very very fine flour.
  • How to store the quinoa flour that we had ground at home? The flour can be kept in a jar or a sealed box in the pantry or the fridge. Kindly notice that the flour will remain fresh for about three months in the pantry and for six months in the fridge. With that said, I recommend grinding the quinoa into flour close to the time of making the pastry and in the needed amount, this way we’ll have a fresh and good flour, since the freshness of the flour affects the pastry’s taste and texture.
  • All kinds of flour can be purchased in nature stores and supermarkets and this way avoid grinding it at home. Purchasing pre-made flour does not promise freshness, and of course its cost will be higher.
  • Can be grind in a fast grind or pulses according to the strength of your blender / grinder / mixer.

I’m warning you, it’s going to be love at first site and there’s no going back.
