Health Secretary Neil Gray reassures the public that there are sufficient flu vaccine supplies despite a challenging strain of the illness. In an interview with BBC Radio Scotland Breakfast, Gray highlighted the significant impact of the current flu strain, urging eligible individuals to get vaccinated. He revealed that over a million adults and 400,000 children received the flu jab between September and November. These figures come as a week-long surge in flu cases across Scotland, rising from 555 to 805 laboratory-confirmed cases, according to Public Health Scotland. Despite concerns, Gray assured the public that there are more than adequate vaccine stocks, emphasizing the vaccine's ability to prevent hospital admissions and suppress the illness's spread. Dr. Claire Cameron, a consultant at Public Health Scotland, echoed this sentiment, confirming the availability of vaccines in the NHS system and encouraging eligible individuals to get vaccinated. However, Scottish Labour's deputy leader, Jackie Baillie, criticized the SNP's handling of the situation, claiming the NHS is in a constant state of crisis and facing a disastrous winter. Baillie attributed the drop in vaccine rates to the current crisis, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive plan to ensure public safety and alleviate pressure on emergency services during the winter months.
